Riverine Update (Wednesday, November 13, 2024, 4:30 PM)
River Crest Update:
As predicted, the Ogeechee River is expected to crest this afternoon in Eden at 14.4 feet. This will cause the river level in Richmond Hill to peak in a range between 6.8 and 7.3 feet tonight into tomorrow morning.
Potential Impacts:
While we don't anticipate widespread flooding, some low-lying areas and streets may experience standing water. This event is expected to cause minor flooding, with water levels potentially rising another six inches before receding tomorrow. This is not expected to be anywhere near the level of flooding we saw during Tropical Storm Debby in August.
Monitoring & Response:
We are closely monitoring the situation with 24/7 vigilance. Our team is in constant contact with the Southeast River Forecasting Center, local meteorologists, and hydrologists to stay informed about water levels and forecasts. City crews are prepared to respond quickly if needed. We are also:
Conducting regular site visits: Fire, police, and public works personnel are monitoring low-lying areas to assess conditions firsthand.
Utilizing drone technology: We are regularly reviewing drone footage to gain an aerial perspective of the situation and identify any potential issues.
Precautions:
• Avoid driving through any flooded areas.
• If you live in a low-lying area, consider moving your vehicle to higher ground.
• Remember to avoid walking through floodwaters.
We're committed to keeping you informed. You can find the latest updates on our city website and social media channels.
