Single-Stream Recycling Service

We’re bringing Single-Stream Recycling to the City of Richmond Hill. Use your green cart with the yellow lid to place all your recyclables together, no sorting needed! Place your cart at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on your day of collection.

Acceptable Materials

  • Aluminum cans
  • Cardboard
  • Chipboard and boxboard
  • Tin and steel cans
  • Junk mail (including envelopes)


  • Newspapers
  • Office and school paper
  • Paper bags
  • Paper cardboard, dairy, and juice containers


  • Phone books, catalogs, and magazines
  • Plastic bottles and containers #1-#2 (no plastic bags)

Restricted Items

The following items will not be collected as part of the trash and recycling service:

  • Appliances containing Freon
  • Automotive parts
  • Batteries
  • Construction / demolition materials
  • Electronics (televisions, printers, monitors, etc.)
  • Explosive items
  • Glass
  • Hazardous wastes (solid or liquid)
  • Materials from floods, fires, or evictions
  • Medical wastes
  • Paint
  • Petroleum derivatives, such as motor oil and solvent
  • Pesticides
  • Tires
  • White goods
  • Yard waste
