City of Richmond Hill to Celebrate Georgia Cities Week

City of Richmond Hill officials announced the city will be holding a variety of events to celebrate “Georgia Cities Week” April 23-29. The theme of this year’s Georgia Cities Week is “Georgia Cities: In the Mix,” highlighting cities’ important role in creating community gathering spaces and driving economic development.

This is the 18th year Georgia Cities Week has been celebrated in the state, and the 17th year the City of Richmond Hill has participated.

“We’re very proud of our city and the services we provide that make it attractive to residents and visitors,” said Mayor E. Harold Fowler. “Cities provide the services and infrastructure to help businesses grow, and set the stage for events where families and individuals can gather as a community.”

Events planned for the week include:

Tuesday, April 25, 2017
Richmond Hill Farmers’ Market
J.F. Gregory Park
521 Cedar Street
2-6 p.m.

During the Farmers’ Market, EOM Operations will be hosting a Mini Touch-a-Truck in J.F. Gregory Park. Kids and adults are welcome to come learn about the Menzi Muck equipment that will be on site and can talk to a public works professional. Kids can climb on and take photos with the equipment.

Fishing Derby

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.; the event ends at noon. Weigh-in is at 11:00 – 11:30, trophies will be presented at 11:45. During this time a free lunch of hot dogs, chips and soda will be provided for registered participants by Fort McAllister Fishing Club. There is a five limit fish per person; catch and release is strongly encouraged.

In addition, the City has set dates for the curbside pick-up of large items not normally picked up by the City. This year the pick-up will take place throughout the City on April 22- 28. This opportunity is available for Richmond Hill current water account users in residential zoning areas only. Curbside pick-up will include large items such as appliances, furniture and other bulky items not normally picked up by the regular trash service. All City residents should place
their items on the curb by 7 a.m. the morning of scheduled pick-up.

The following items will not be collected: tires, hazardous waste items, paint, refrigerators, freezers, oil or oil based product, grease products, batteries, gas or gas based products, lawnmowers, Freon or Freon based products.

Large item trash pick-up in Mulberry, Richmond Place, Blueberry, Camellia Street, Rosemont Street, Carter Street, Rushing Street, Forest Street, Clark Street, Live Oak, White Oak and Ponderosa.

Wednesday, April 26, 2017
Large item pick-up in Piercefield, Teal Lake, Main Street, Brisbon Hall, Sterling Creek, Sterling Woods, Cypress Point, Richmond Hill Plantation-Port Royal and Creekside.

Friday, April 28, 2017
Large item pick-up in Richmond Heights, Parkside, Bottoms, Cherokee, Port Drive, Melrose, Richmond Hill Plantation and Turtle Hill.

Cities across Georgia will be celebrating Georgia Cities Week, coordinated by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 521 member cities.
