Plan Review

The Richmond Hill Fire Department conducts construction plan reviews for the following:

  • Commercial New Construction & Remodels
  • New Tenant Build-Outs
  • Commercial/Residential Site Plans
  • Automatic Sprinkler Systems
  • Fire Alarm Systems

While all plans are to be submitted through the city's Planning & Zoning Office, The Fire Marshal's Office is involved in the review process. If applicable, the following items should be included with all building plan submittals (in addition to Richmond Hill Planning and Zoning requirements):

  1. Cover Sheet with Scope of Work
  2. Applicable Codes Used During Design (must cite State of GA Amendments)
  3. Life Safety Plan Including:
    1. Means of Egress Clear Width Measurements (with capacity calculations)
    2. Farthest Travel Distance to Exits
    3. Exit Lighting Locations
    4. Emergency Lighting Locations
    5. Portable Fire Extinguisher Locations & Types
  4. Fire Protection Features:
    1. Smoke/Fire Damper Locations
    2. Fire Rated Barrier/Wall Locations
    3. Smoke Rated Wall Locations

The City of Richmond Hill requires building plans to be submitted in electronic format (PDF preferred). Review comments will be returned to the applicant and plans will be stamped once all required changes have been made. The FMO can typically review plans and return comments within 3 business days, however occasional delays occur due to circumstances beyond our control.
